Cedar Creek Church is all about fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19,20,Acts 1:8). In the Bible, Baptism was always the first commandment obeyed that started the discipleship process and was the physical act to become connected to the church (Acts 2:41). That's why Cedar Creek Church encourages every believer to understand what the Bible teaches about Baptism, and to follow Jesus in this area as the Bible describes.
Baptism is the step taken by new believers to testify that they have trusted in Christ as their Lord and Savior and are committing themselves to follow Christ and being involved in a local church (Acts 2:41,42)
Only by grace through faith in Christ are we saved (Ephesians 2:8,9). Baptism doesn't save us. It testifies that we already are saved! All those baptized in Scripture were baptized after trusting in Christ as their Lord and Savior. Baptism is like a wedding ring--the outward symbol of the commitment we've made in our hearts.
Why should believers be baptized?
* Christ commanded it (Matthew 28:19,20)
*To follow Christ's example    (Mark 1:9)
*It shows that I know Christ          (I John 2:3)
Biblical baptism is a believers baptism and there is no mention of infants being baptized in the Bible. That custom began about 300 years after the Bible was completed. Cedar Creek does however help parents in having their children dedicated. Please contact us for more information. It is important for every believer to be baptized in the New Testament way, as Jesus commanded, even though they may have been confirmed or baptized as a child.
The Greek word for baptism Baptidzo) means to immerse, or dip under the water. This is the way Jesus was baptized (Matthew 3:13) and others as well (Acts 8:38,39). Even Martin Luther wrote, "I would have those who are to be baptized, to be entirely immersed, as the word imports and the mystery signifies" (Ewald M. Pass, "What Luther says", Concordia, 1959). Because of strong Biblical support, Cedar Creek Church baptizes by immersion.
Each person who has trusted in Christ as their Lord and Savior, and committed themselves to following Christ and being involved in a local church is ready to be
baptized! If you wait until you're perfect, it will never happen!
